Undergraduate vacation residence
Undergraduate accommodation agreements allow for residence for up to 9 weeks per term and not during the vacations – dates can be found on your accommodation agreement.
If you need to stay in College for academic purposes or essential travel reasons applications for undergraduate vacation residence open midway through each term. You will be asked to complete an application form which is sent out by the Accommodation Manager.
You can also access the form here or here:
If you need to arrive early for any Term you will also need to make arrangements for this before the start of the preceding vacation.
A vac res request is passed onto your personal tutor for approval, and we then work to find availability for you. We always try to accommodate you in your term-time room, but if this isn't possible then we will make arrangements for you to move to an alternative room within College. If you are asked to move rooms it is because either your room, or the rooms surrounding them will either be in use - or will be having maintenance work taking place. Please do not email and ask to stay in your room if you have been asked to move. Any vacation residence that is granted will be charged at the standard nightly rate and will appear on your battels straight away.
Some of our undergraduates opt for a 37 week accommodation agreement from 0th week of Michaelmas Term to 8th week of Trinity Term (October to June). In this case you do not need to apply for vacation residence but we may still need you to move rooms out of term time.
Graduate summer accommodation
Graduate student residents choose from one of 4 summer end dates when signing their accommodation agreement. Graduates wishing to amend their summer extension bookings should contact the Accommodation Manager at accommodation.manager@lmh.ox.ac.uk to discuss this. We offer graduates the chance to extend their standard 39 week booking for an additional 4, 8 or 12 weeks over the summer. Summer vacation residence must be paid before the end of Trinity Term.
Choosing rooms for later year groups
The JCR Ballot : Returning undergraduates are given the opportunity to choose their room for the following year through the JCR Room Ballot. The Ballot is managed by the JCR, Academic Office and Bursary and is run during the spring for the coming autumn.
The Ballot is your opportunity to choose where in College you want to live and who you want to live with, so you should think carefully about your choice.
The MCR Ballot: Although the College is not able to guarantee any accommodation for returning graduates, except for some LMH scholars and members of the MCR Executive Committee, we do sometimes make room offers to returning students subject to availability. If you are interested in living in College and would like to be considered should any rooms become available, then you will be invited to take part in the MCR Room Ballot.
Living-out : If you are choosing to live-out or need to look for accommodation outside of College then the Oxford SU Student Advice Service is a good place to start https://www.oxfordsu.org/wellbeing/student-advice/. Their Living-out Guide provides lots of useful information.
