Housekeeping, Maintenance and Faults

All areas of the college including college study bedrooms are regularly cleaned by our staff.  You can expect the following cleaning schedules:

Bedrooms: Removal of rubbish Monday to Friday, clean once a week (hoover, dust, clean sink/bathroom)

Communal kitchen/pantry: removal of rubbish; clean all surfaces, cupboard doors, sink, cooker, microwave etc. daily Monday to Friday.  Once a week: clean oven, toaster.  NB - Housekeeping staff do not clean or tidy dishes – residents must do this.

Communal bathrooms/toilets: Cleaned daily Monday to Friday

Corridors and staircases: Cleaned three times per week.

If you have any particular requirements email the housekeeping manager:  https://www.lmh.ox.ac.uk/current-students/key-contacts

Faults that occur with anything in the living spaces or communal areas must be reported straight away – they won’t fix themselves or get better over time and our team of staff can usually mend them.  Use the email address faults@lmh.ox.ac.uk to report all types of faults.

Our Estates team are on site between 0800 and 1900 Monday to Friday and will usually attend to issues on a priority basis within those hours.  For urgent problems that occur outside these hours we will bring contractors to site as soon as we are able to.

Waste

Our Housekeeping team will collect the waste in the buildings daily Monday to Friday, both from your room and from the kitchens in your building.  If you don’t want to be disturbed leave the bin outside your room.

Waste is collected and handled in 4 main streams:

  • Dry mixed recycling such as paper, card, cans, plastics
  • Glass
  • Food
  • Everything else

To help you separate your waste the bin in your room has two compartments, and there are four separate bins in your kitchen.  Your help in reducing our collective impact on the environment by using less, re-using more, and separating your waste so it can be recycled  is important – thank you.

Heating and hot water

Most LMH buildings use gas fired boilers for space heating and to generate hot water.  A central gas boiler heats water which is pumped around a system of radiators to warm up the building spaces until a control mechanism tells the system the room is warm enough.

Hot water to all taps (faucets) is usually generated by the same boilers building by building.

Our aim is to provide heating to a moderate but not generous level to all residential areas in the college for core hours of the day during the colder times of year, in the region of 20°C 0700 - 2300. The resident has some level of control over the heating in all circumstances either through a valve on the radiator, a thermostat on the wall or an app.
