About College Accommodation
LMH has just under 500 single study bedrooms for current students, just over 200 of which are en-suite. We have a range of different residential buildings from some of the first at LMH, to more recent buildings opened in 2016. Non en-suite rooms typically have small communal kitchens and residents share bathroom facilities with 6-8 students.
All our rooms are contracted a year at a time but the dates vary.
Rents for all on-site rooms are inclusive of utility bills and limited cleaning services. All rooms will have a College ethernet point and wireless network connectivity and will be fitted with standard furniture including a bed and mattress, bedside table, desk, desk chair, desk lamp, easy chair, wardrobe and/or chest of drawers, noticeboard and bookshelves.
Undergraduates
We provide accommodation for undergraduates throughout the Oxford term-time (three periods of 9 weeks each) and are able to offer some accommodation during vacations upon request at a standard nightly charge. Or undergraduates can choose to take a contract from the beginning of October to the end of the summer term (37 weeks) though room moves for the vacations may still be necessary.
Some courses will have exams or other assessments arranged by the department which are outside the dates we normally offer accommodation, in 9th and 10th week of each term - please check your exam schedule before booking flights or planning holidays. Students with exams may usually stay in their term-time room until the morning after their last exam, without further charge, though this must be booked by the student via the Vacation and Exam Residence form, sent out in 4th week.
Almost all of our first year undergraduate rooms are standard rooms without an ensuite bathroom, and our located in some of our more historic buildings including Deneke, Wolfson West and Eleanor Lodge. In subsequent years undergraduate students can choose their rooms through our ballot system which is run by the JCR.
Rooms must be emptied of all belongings for each vacation, although some rooms have a small lockable storage space where a small number of items can be left over the Christmas and Easter vacations. Occasionally we are able to provide limited additional storage space for international students though we do not guarantee it.
Post graduates
For post-graduate students many rooms are located in our Clore Graduate Centre, whilst other rooms are situated in some of our most historic buildings such as New Old Hall, Old Old Hall and in the College's properties on Fyfield Road. We are not able to offer any couples or family accommodation or accommodation to students studying for part-time programmes.
Our on-site post graduate rooms are offered at four price bands, dependent on the room size, quality and facilities - for 2025/26 these range from around £148.04 to £209.50 per week. All en-suite rooms are charged at the highest A+ Band and are located in the Clore Graduate Centre.
Our standard graduate accommodation agreements run for 39 weeks from the end of September, enabling you to stay in College continuously through term-time and vacations. Students have the option to extend their agreements over the summer period for 4, 8 or 12 weeks.
University Graduate Accommodation
The University's Graduate Accommodation Services also lets and manages rooms, flats and houses on University-owned sites in and around Oxford City Centre. A number of these rooms are allocated to colleges and in some years may be reserved for LMH students. If available you can express an interest in one of these rooms when applying for LMH College accommodation, through our accommodation survey. If rooms are allocated to us, and we are able to put you forward for a room then your details will be passed onto the University’s Graduate Accommodation Office - your accommodation offer and contract with then be handled directly by them.
Availability
We expect all first year undergraduate students to live in the college and we will offer you a room. We guarantee a room for three years for undergraduate students. Students on a four year course must live out for one of their years, usually their 3rd or 4th.
If you have successfully secured a post graduate offer at Lady Margaret Hall, please expect to find more information on how to apply for College accommodation in your College Offer Letter.
If you are applying for our post graduate accommodation you will be asked to complete an online questionnaire. You will be automatically added to a waiting list and may be offered a room subject to availability - we make accommodation offers between March and September each year.
It is currently our policy to prioritise students for College accommodation who have disability considerations and those who are international (overseas). If we are able to make you an accommodation offer then you will be contacted directly by our Accommodation Office with further details.
